British Walking Holiday with your dog
How about a British walking holiday with your dog? Seems obvious knowing how much every dog loves to exercise. There are an increasing number of companies realising that walkers want to walk with their dogs rather than leave them in kennels.
Doggy Issues to consider
Stiles have often been a problem for walkers. After all, lifting a Golden Retriever over a stile is not my idea of a relaxing holiday! If you are travelling with the right company, they will let you know where the tricky stiles are and how they can be avoided.
And the best companies organise lunch in a dog friendly pub and overnight stays in a dog friendly inn or bed and breakfast.
You might encounter restrictions on your route such as areas being closed in the lambing season - again if you book with a company that is geared up to dogs, they will be able to advise you on this.
Preparation
Just like humans, dogs may need to increase their fitness level in preparation for a walking holiday.
If your dog is used to short bursts of exercise, he or she may need to build up some stamina. It might be a good idea to try out some day walks before the holiday to acclimatise you both to the kind of terrain and height gain you'll be likely to meet.
Remember over-exercising young dogs can be dangerous to their development.
