Visit her site at Simcha Chow Chows The Chow Chow is one of the oldest recognisable breeds in the world. Chow Chow History Chows have been known in China for upwards of 2,000 years. The ancestry of the Chow is attributed to China where they were kept as a guard dog, and also used for hunting. They made their way to England sometime during the late eighteenth century.

With their strange aloofness, gentle and loyal behaviour, they are a wonderful companion with a tendency to be a "one-man dog". They can live a long and active life and if well cared for a Chow is still young at 12. They never bark unnecessarily but when roused they are well able to defend their home and owner. Chow chow grooming The Rough Chow has a coat which is abundant, thick, and stands off from the body. It requires about half an hour daily grooming to keep it in good condition. The Smooth Chow has a woolly undercoat with a short top coat of plush texture. The coat may be one of four colours including red, black, blue, fawn, and cream.
