corgi sheltie cross - Kodie

i love the snow!!!

i love the snow!!!

I got Kodie from the RSPCA 3 years ago. He was rescued from a house of 78 dogs and had some psychological issues, and still does.

He was very sick when he arrived here at his new home and after various pet hospital stays and a lot of patience and expense ( luckily he is insured, although I would have found the money) it was discovered he has Inflammatory Bowel Disease, due to the conditions he had been brought up in; eating whatever he could and getting all sorts of horrid diseases.

He is on long term medication for this and thanks to Pet Plan his condition is kept under control. He has gained a lot of confidence in the past few years, sometimes too much! But I would never be without him now.

When he has his bouts of sickness I stay up all night with him, he knows me and I know him! I know he will not have a long life, but I will treasure the moments I have with him.

The RSPCA is a UK animal charity and the oldest and largest animal welfare organisation in the world.

Meeting up
by: Terri

Hi Again,

My Meg is one of the 70 something rescue corgi x sheties. I would love to meet up with any of the other rescues dogs which are related to mine. My Meg is around eight years old now. She has had puppies before I adopted her so it is possible that she is the mother of the puppy that one of you now has. She is absolutely gorgeous and is the most faithful dog I have ever owned.  She is fine with people and other dogs but just has the occasional falling out with my other dogs which are whippets. She likes to be the boss and that doesn't always go down very well. I would love to be in touch with any of you who also have one or more of these wonderful little dogs,

                  Terri

Hi Terri, hope this can be arranged :-) - Hilary (ed)

I have one of these dogs
by: Terri

I have been worried that I have not come across any of the dogs who were rescued with mine. I will send photos of mine she is gorgeous and no health problems so far. Sounds as though I have been very lucky,

Terri

Hi Terri, look forward to seeing your dog! - Hilary (ed)

My sheltie corgi cross
by: Crazy cat lady

I have a dog almost identical to Kodie that I rescued from the Dog Pound in Ionia county, Michigan, USA. When I got her she was very thin and had almost no fur and was within hours of being put down. After I got her we found she had bladderstones and seizures. Now three years later she is just beautiful like Kodie and her health problems seem to have subsided. She just loves people but has some dominance issues especially with large female dogs. And she doesn't listen at all off the leash.

We are two of the Jaywick 78
by: Megan and Lana

Hi, we are two of the 78 dogs rescued, Lana is the older of us, she is coming up to eleven and I am nearly four. When we were rescued I was only a few weeks old, one of the ten puppies found.
We now live in comfort, our carers look after us very well, we get good food and have the run of the house and garden, no bed or chair is out of bounds and in return we sit with them during the day and sleep with them at night.
We even get regular holidays in their caravan. We have been all around the country and on one visit we met up with one of our Jaywick cousins.
We now live in Cambridgeshire but it would be fun to see if we could gather together as many as possible for a day out.

Wow, it would be amazing if this could be arranged! Hilary

I have number 61!
by: Christine

Hi,
I also have one from that house called Spike (number 61). He was very feral when I got him but now is a very affectionate, lazy slob! He is great with my other 3 dogs & is a real Daddies boy. Luckily for me he is healthy but his mental scaring took a along time to get over (had him 3yrs this July). Spike had major stranger issue & bit many of our very understanding family & friends. I would never trust him 100% with strangers coming into the house but feel we are finally 95% perfect.
Would be great to compare stories as I worked alongside the RSPCA at the time & housed 24 of them (plus puppies) in kennels I worked at until they could be rehomed.
Hope to here from you
Christine

Wow! That's amazing - hope you two manage to get in touch. I know how long it can take to get a dog to trust humans again. It can be a long road - but totally worth it :) - Hilary (Ed)

corgi sheltie Hybrid name
by: Nicky

Thank you Hilary, I was just wondering if you knew what the Hybrid name would be? I can't find it anywhere. A Coltie? or Shelgie? Any ideas from anyone?

Hi Nicky, no it doesn't seem to be a recognised mix. But maybe I'm wrong. Anyone know? - Hilary

beauty
by: Hilary (Ed)

Hi Nicky
what a heart wrenching story - luckily with a happy ending. You're doing a grand job there. And that's quite an unusual mix - Kodie's a beauty :)
