Out and About with your Dog

Dog Walking in Preston Park Brighton

Preston Park

What do you like about this area for exercising your dog?
Preston Park is not ideal for exercising bigger breeds but it's a step away from our house and okay for a short walk.

Do you consider it a safe place for your dog?
Not really - the main hazard is the proximity of the roads on both sides.

Does it seem popular with other dog owners?
It seems particularly popular with owners of the smaller breeds.

What is parking like and/or buses?
Free parking is restrictive as commuter parking takes most of it but there is plenty of pay parking in Preston Park Ave.

The Number 5 bus is frequent.

Are there doggy bins provided?
There are plenty - you don't have to carry that bag far!

Are there any cafes and if so are they dog-friendly?
Both cafes are very dog friendly. I found a stray once and they agreed to keep it while I sorted a call to the dog warden. Luckily the owner turned up - the dog had no collar :-(

Are there any doggy no-go areas that you know of? (eg. children’s play area)
Yes, the children's play area and bowling greens. Also on a Saturday and Sunday the footballers take over most of the area.

Do you think this place is best suited to certain breeds/types of dog?
Yes, tiny ones! It seems particularly popular with Yorkie owners!

Any other comments?
On an early walk there can be broken glass left behind by local teenagers although the staff are well on top of cleaning and it's cleared up quickly.

It looks like a massive place but take out chunks and you are left with not a lot.

On a positive (for me) it's a step away from my door and the dog owning community are friendly and chatty.

The Engineer pub in Arglye Rd has good food and is very dog friendly. They even feed the hounds! But Sheepcote and Castle Hill still rule in Brighton!
