Dog Walking in Withdean ParkWithdean Park is a favorite for dog owners in the area. I also know many people who travel in, especially in the winter months for a safe, dog walk at around 4 in the afternoon.
A regular visitor to the site - Jenny, owner of Brussell, the Shih Tzu, (see pic) sent me this information about the Puppy Enclosure in Withdean Park. She writes, "The 'Puppy Enclosure' in Withdean Park is used by well-behaved dogs of all ages, and their owners. We go there every other day now. Its just a hill/field/garden that is completely enclosed by a fence, so there is no danger of the dog running away and getting squished by a car. It's a very relaxing place to be, because it's big but you're not worrying about where your dog might run off to. Most dogs are very good natured and it is *wonderful* to see your dog playing freely with others. Anyway, I heartily recommend Withdean Park for walkies. We take the number 5 bus as we do not drive".
Thank you also to Phillipa Shaw, the Co-ordinator of the Friends of Withdean Park, Brighton, for the following extra information: "As the Co-ordinator of the Friends of Withdean Park, Brighton, I would just like to say that, yes Withdean Park is a lovely place to walk a dog or puppy, but can I say that the fence/enclosure was put there to keep the rabbits away from the National Lilac Collection. It hasn't really worked, and the council were going to remove it but the Friends said that it was popular with dog/puppy walkers so it has been left. There are still owners who do not pick up after their dogs, so please keep an eye out for your dog if it goes behind a bush and you know it hasn't performed. Also don't let them damage the lilac bushes which are fairly fragile. Thanks! I have a dog of course and use the park regularly as do my friends." If you have anything else to add about Withdean Park, have a photo of your dog in the park, or have a favourite walk in Brighton that you'd like to share, please Contact Me and I'll add it to the site.
