I can strongly recommend the town of Alford - about 35 miles from Aberdeen. As well as being a lovely place to visit it is extremely dog (and human) friendly. In one day we visited the Grampian Transport Museum (www.gtm.org.uk) who were very welcoming and allowed access to all areas for our dog, Jet. We then travelled on the Alford Valley Railway a narrow gauge railway line, (www.alfordvalleyrailway.org.uk). Again Jet was welcomed aboard the train and met with one of their regulars - Blake, a Black Lab, who actually rode on the footplate with the driver! Finally, the Alford Heritage Centre (www.spanglefish.com/alfordheritagecentre) was a fantastic place full of items of local history and all hands on. Once again, Jet was made most welcome. Alford, definately worth a visit for dog owners - (but be advised, the locals pronounce it "Aff-od").
