Dog walking gear

Would you like to tell us about your favourite dog walk? We'd love to hear from you.
In my humble opinion the most important item of dog walking gear is a waterproof jacket. Let's face it, if you're wet you're more likely to be miserable (all other things being equal of course!)
What to look for in a waterproof jacket
An important feature of a jacket is its breathability. This effectively means that the fabric allows moisture (ie sweat) to pass through to the outside.
Some jackets have an Interactive Zip or IA which enables a compatible fleece to be attached. When the weather is cold this is a particularly welcome feature.
Hoods may be fixed, roll away or detachable. It is useful if you are planning to walk in all weathers, to have a volume adjuster on your hood. If it is windy as well as raining you can adjust the volume of the hood to offer more protection thus enabling the hood to stay in place.
Some jackets have pit zips or underarm zips that increase ventilation. These are useful when you are walking for a longer time and experiencing changes in temperature. Core venting is a similar feature which allows increased airflow by opening zips on the chest.
Lately I’ve seen more people with walking poles, sometimes called trekking poles, which can offer increased stability on your walk. They can be very lightweight as well as extremely strong and on some models the length can be adjusted in seconds.
