Dogs in the Snow

Dogs in the snow make for stunning winter images - perfect for Christmas!

All Posters.com feature some amazing posters of snow dogs. Go to the Dogs in the Snow Poster Section at the bottom of this page.

Just when you think winter is over, you get a day like the one you're about to see. These photos were taken in April 2008 in the south of England and took us all by surprise. I know in other countries this probably looks quite tame, but for us 'southern softies' it was a difficult day to get through.

Luckily it all happened on a Sunday so many people just sat it out in the comfort of their own homes. Although the traffic jams were bad and my petrol gauge was showing nearly empty, it was all worth it. The dogs had an amazing time and all the dog walkers out that day felt brave and adventurous!

Here's Georgie, our Golden Retriever, looking like a true snow dog on the front of a Christmas card. She absolutely loved it, racing around with masses of energy - it was probably just the right temperature for her, owning as she does a double fur coat.

This was the view of our carpark with Jessie running back towards the camera.

This man and his family were having a snowball fight and my dogs wanted to join in the fun. Usually Jessie barks at strange men who get too close, but she loved this one! It took ages to get the dogs back in the car. They really didn't want to go home that day!

This was near the beginning of our walk. There were people out and about but not as many as usual. I guess just the hardy few. There hadn't been many dogs in the snow up to that point.

This shows the view into the wood and a family well wrapped up against the elements. We didn't know what had hit us that day!

out in the snow

Here's an atmospheric shot through the trees. We walked there the next day and the snow had all but disappeared. This is proof that we didn't dream it.

The snow was dropping off the trees in big lumps and the sounds were of course very unfamiliar. Here are two shots of Jessie thinking, 'What was that?!'

I may well use this pic on next year's Christmas cards! It really was beautiful and I'm so pleased we made it into the wood that day.
