German Shorthaired Pointer - Oban 12 Years

Oban will be 12 years old beginning of September, but his nickname is still 'puppy' as he seems to have boundless energy. I'm a dog walker so I'm out walking all day every day in all weathers.

Oban runs everywhere, he doesn't know the meaning of slow. When we get home he goes to his toy box and starts flinging his toys about, although when he's had his dinner he does go into a deep sleep now and can snore for England. He has won over a hundred rosettes in fun dog shows and used to love agility. Unfortunately we had to give it up because his nails kept splitting. I found out he has lupus but it only seems to affect his nails and his nose.

He has been a wonderful friend, very intelligent and loving, although aloof with strangers. He tolerates all other dogs no matter what they do to him. He does have separation anxiety which can be hard if I need to leave him.

Anyone thinking of getting this breed MUST be prepared to give it loads of exercise and love. They are very sensitive, they hate raised voices. In the photo he is the one facing the camera with his mates Xena, my friends 2 year old, and 3 year old Muddy whom I walk regularly.

Oban, So Handsome, So Happy
by: Ankhorite

As I write to you now in January 2012, I don't know if Oban is still with you. I have lost my last four GSPs each at the age of twelve.

Whether he is still here or not: what a lovely dog, and what a lovely life you've given him!

I pinned a referral to your joyful photo and narrative. Comments left there will reach me. Thank you for sharing Oban's image and story.

Hi Jewels, thanks for your photo and the extra information about this breed. You've captured a terrific moment here and to get all three in the shot is priceless :)

Great photo

Wow, this works really well. The angles (couldn't have been planned better!) draw the eye around the image. It's action packed and captures the breed characteristics brilliantly.
