Barney at Belle Isle
Barney is a rescue dog that I found through petfinder. When I first adopted him, he was extremely high energy and not all that attached to people. That quickly changed as he experienced more and more love from me and my family. Now, Barney is a big mama's boy and is extremely attached to his little brother, my second adopted dog named Wylie.
When I took this photo, Barney and I were sunbathing and playing in the James River together for the first time. I have gone to Belle Isle in Richmond, VA many times before with friends, and I had always seen people out and about with their dogs on the river rocks and hiking trails. So, I decided it was about time I bring Barney because I know how much he loves to swim and socialize. Barney had never been out on the river rocks by the rapids before and he seemed mesmerized by the strong current and crashing water over the submerged boulders.
I had my camera with me to document his first time to Belle Isle and as he sat gazing at the rapids, still wet from our last splashy play session in the river, I was captivated by him and how he looked through my camera lens. I believe this picture perfectly captures Barney's first trip to Belle Isle while also captivating the unique characteristics of Richmond City. In the background, you can see Hollywood Cemetery across the river.
This photograph is more complex than even I could have imagined when I captured it through my lens, and I am excited to share this with others. Enjoy!
