Apart from the healthy dog treat recipes I try out at home, our dogs also love eating the following healthy dog snacks:

  • Raw carrots

  • Small segments of apple

  • Pieces of low salt rice cake

  • Remember however that dogs can easily start to put on weight and giving them food from the table is a big no-no.

The homemade dog treat recipes featured on this page are ideal to use as training rewards as well as 'anytime' treats, and the fish varieties will give your pet an extra boost of Omega 3 as well.

The texture is often like flapjacks - and they look like flapjacks too so don't let your human guests help themselves! They might be in for a shock!

    Tips
I usually transfer the cookies to an airtight container and they will last for a couple of weeks. But to be honest, they're gone long before that!

Making homemade dog treats is obviously better for your dog because you know exactly what's gone into them. But introduce them to your dog gradually to avoid tummy upsets and do not over feed so as to avoid them putting on weight.

We usually give our dogs one homemade dog treat after their morning walk and one when we return from the evening walk. But maybe we're just mean!
