This is Clyde, he is a Hovawart puppy and was eight weeks old when this picture was taken (born 02/07/2010).

The Hovawart is a German dog breed. The name of the breed means "an estate guard dog," which is the original use for the breed. The breed originated in the Black Forest region and was first described in text and paintings in medieval times.

Hi Cerys, I must admit I hadn't heard of this breed either. This puppy photo of Clyde is very sweet.

What a doll. I've never heard of that breed before, but that was my father's name. All of our dogs get part of their names from family members, but we haven't named one Clyde. However, one has my father's nickname: Mac as one of his "middle names."
