Japanese Spitz are bred to be companion dogs.
They are rare in the UK. Their ice white coat (it should only be white) makes them such a beautiful breed.
Great with children and require average amount of exercise.
Loyal, friendly but can be a bit chary at first meeting. But once they get to know you, they love to be with you all the time.
Japanese Spitz should have a double coat, a soft under coat and a longer outer coat.
They require grooming at least once a week depending on the time of the year and whether the coat is moulting.
Boy dogs will moult once a year and the bitches twice a year unless they has been spayed. If so, bitches will moult once a year.
Their coat has a teflon texture which means dirt doesn't stick. Dirt will brush off once the coat is dry.
So although these dogs look high maintenance, they really are quite easy to look after.
Dogs stand around 13.5 to 14.5 inches. Bitches stand around 12 to 13 inches.
They do not require their coat to be cut/shaped. The only trimming required is around the paws.
A very healthy breed with only one type of health problem, Patella Luxation. This occurs rarely in the breed.
These dogs make great pets who love to show themselves off.
Great for agility training or dog showing.
They also make the perfect Pets as Therapy and Hearing Dogs.
