Let Me Tell You About Jeter, My Nine Year Old Chocolate Lab
by Diane Gowin
(New York)
I would like to tell you about Jeter. He is a purebred English Chocolate Lab. He was nine years old on April 11, 2011.
My daughters, Melanie and Pauline, got him for me after I had to give my beloved "Boots", a black lab mix, the ultimate gift on May 17, 2002. Jeter and I have been together since June 2, 2002.
When my daughters went to pick out a new puppy for me, Jeter (I had this name picked out one year before Boots' passing) came over and gave my Melanie a "HUG". This is where he sits down and puts his two front paws up to hug you. Melanie told Jeter that he just found himself a new home.
Jeter has been my lifesaver, my constant companion, and my "gentle giant" for these last nine years. He is so loving and caring that sometimes just looking at him makes me feel grateful that he is all mine.
Jeter never ever complains about his siblings. One is a fawn color purebred Pug by the name of Moose (who was born on my birthday 11-1-2008) and the other is a purebred black Miniature Schnauzer by the name of Chesney (after Kenny Chesney) who was born on 11-9-2008. Actually, I do believe that they keep Jeter young. Jeter got sick last night, and it just breaks my heart when he isn't feeling good. I hope that I do not have to give Jeter the "ultimate gift" for quite a few years yet. I love him so much. Thank you for listening. Oh, Jeter, of course, was named after my "Derek Jeter".
With respect,
Diane Gowin
