Pitbull Lab Mix Puppy Survives Parvo and Distemper

Flash was a 25lb black spitz mix with a fluffy curly tail. The year was 1995. He lived a very long fruitful life full of joy and hatred for the mailman. He was my everything. So when he passed away March 4th 2008,I cried for three days. Never again would a bond between k9 and man be so close.

So a few months later, another dog was the last thing i needed and the farthest thing from my mind. My 10 year old son couldnt stand to see me without my "shadow" following me everywhere i went. So he and my wife decided it was time for another dog.

Enter Mr Wilson. Mr Wilson was an 8 week old black lab/pit mix with a white chest and short course hair. Absolutley adorable. He could have won the puppy bowl hands down without kicking an extra point!

We moved to our new house june of 2008 and Mr Wilson was still a happy go lucky puppy with an overdose of energy. i work second shift.

one day i came home and my wife told me Mr Wilson hasnt been himself all day. He had been lethargic and had not touched his food that day.

The next day was a carbon copy of the previous day only with mucous around Mr Wilsons nostrils.

We took him to the vet which confirmed that he had parvo. There was nothing we could do so we were told. They even made me carry my dog out of the lobby so his infected paws wouldnt touch their floor. Poor Mr Wilson.

Things just got progressivly worse after the vet visit. A couple of days had passed and Mr Wilson was getting worse. He wouldnt move now or even drink water. We would set him on his blanket and he would stay there for hours unmoved till we picked him up and set him on his blanket in the yard.

My family had distanced themselves from him because they knew the worst was inevitable. They just couldnt deal with another loss so shortly after Flash passed away.

It was Sunday. Time for church. Wilson was still alive. Barely. i decided to go to the alter and kneel and ask God to give this little puppy a chance to live and to grow into an adult dog.

i came home from church and went straight to Mr Wilson. He was lying on his side in the backyard struggling to open his eyes to see me. Also struggling to breathe because of the mucous buildup around his nostrils.

i looked at him and told myself this:one of two things will happen. Either Mr Wilson will get better or he will die trying. Although my family had given up on him and thought it was too late for any type of recovery, i thought differently.

Every day before work i would prop up Mr Wilson and pick his nose so he could breathe and i manually opened his mouth and poured about a 1/4 bottle of water down his throat every day. before work and after work. every day. All by myself. I told myself i cant just let this dog die. If he does die,at least i can say i tried.

This went on for over 2 weeks. Then one day my wife calls me at work. she said Mr Wilson walked over to his water and was drinking it on his own.

WHAT???? omg!!!omg!!!omg!!!

i came home that night and i will never forget the sight of seeing Mr Wilson waiting for me at the front door with his tail wagging.

Days went by and he got better and better. He started eating on his own. His mucous cleared up. My family felt guilty for giving up on him. I dont hold em guilty to it though.

I cant say for sure whether Mr Wilson would have survived had i not gone to the Alter and put his situation in Gods hands. So the next Sunday,i went to the Alter again to thank God Almighty for touching Mr Wilson with his healing hand.

There is a saying that goes "That which does not kill you can only make you stronger."

That particular phrase describes Mr Wilsons life so accurately, its scary. I dont have a photo to upload cause im at work as i write this, but here is a link to a youtube video showing Mr Wilson's extraordinary strength and speed.

If your dog has a serious illness, there is hope. You can find it at the Alter. Thank you for reading my story.
