St Anne's Wells Gardens What's it like for dog walking?
St Anne's Wells Gardens, Hove, East Sussex
Entrances in Nizells Avenue and Sommerhill Road, BN3
What do you like about this area for exercising your dog?
St Anne’s Wells is a delightful, well maintained park with lots of different areas. There’s a hilly wooded area, a formal rose garden, a quiet scented garden, and a green for ball games. It’s a friendly, popular park with a great café.
Do you consider it a safe place for your dog?
Yes, although you have to watch the stretch of path that runs alongside Nizell’s Avenue – dogs have been know to run out into the road there in hunt of a squirrel.
Does it seem popular with other dog owners?
There are lots of dog walkers in St Anne’s Wells.
What is parking like and/or buses?
The number 7 bus route is nearby. There is on street parking, but you need to use parking metres.
Are there doggy bins provided?
yes
Are there any cafes and if so are they dog-friendly?
The café allows dogs in the outside area if they are kept on the lead.
Are there any doggy no-go areas that you know of? (eg. children’s play area)
The children’s play area is dog free, also the area around the fish pond. You have to keep your dog on a lead in the scented garden, although the sign telling you about this is currently missing. There are also a couple of conservation areas that are fenced off.
Do you think this place is best suited to certain breeds/types of dog?
It’s probably best for small dogs, or larger dogs as a supplementary walk. The park is quite small, so you need to do several circuits to get a decent walk. There are also lots of children in the park, other dogs and picnics in the summer, so well behaved dogs are recommended.
