Woody in his Dog Wheelchair
Walkin Wheels Helps Woody Live a Happy, Healthy Life.
When Woody was diagnosed with DM, the vet said he would be losing the use of his back legs over the next few years. The best thing I could do was make sure he got exercise.
I looked into dog wheelchairs and was a little daunted by the measurements, waiting weeks, and not really being able to re-sell the cart when Woody was gone (unless I could find a dog the same size).
After some research, I found and ordered a dog wheelchair from HandicappedPets. I didn't need to take measurements and they shipped it next day. The best thing about it was that I could adjust the leg height so at first, the wheels were higher up and he was walking on his back legs -- but when he started to fall, the wheels would support him. This gave him exercise, but no risk of getting hurt.
As his legs got weaker, I adjusted the legs a little longer to take almost all the weight off his back legs.
When he lost the use of his legs completely, I adjusted the wheelchair and put his feet up in the stirrups.
The fact that the Walkin' Wheels adjusts to any size dog is great and gave Woody several happy years.
